Ghost and Gossip

I must be old, b/c Heath Ledger's death didn't mean a thing to me. I thought he did a fine enough job in "Brokeback Mountain", but I'm pretty sure I never saw anything else he was in.

If she was in her prime today, Suzanne Pleshette (when she was on the Bob Newhart Show) would have probably been branded America's #1 MILF -- today they'd probably have a reality show about it, as well.

I have to admit, I couldn't help but notice she was very attractive in Blackbeard's Ghost. When I went to IMDB I was most interested in seeing if she was still doing movies, so that's why I noticed she had just died recently.

I wouldn't say that Heath Ledger's death meant anything to me in terms of him being a good actor or great inspiration or anything like that. The reality is he wasn't (to me). The only thing his death provides me is insight into how obsessed our culture has become with celebrities. It is like people can't stand to live their own lives anymore, so they submerge themselves in the lives of someone else. Then we love to turn on them when we see a possible flaw in them and jump to all sorts of conclusions to make us feel better about ourselves. It is almost like our facination comes out of jealousy, because we are so quick to demonize people for making the same mistakes "normal" people make everyday.
