Heroes - Thoughts and Theories
My final scene idea has generated a lot of discussion, so I thought it would be good to share the ideas that inspired it in the first place.
I think the explosion in New York needs to happen. Stopping the explosion is what we would expect to see, but I think it is not consistent with the “you can’t change your destiny” message the show has seemed to have up to this point. I think the explosion occurring gives the writers more options of where they can go. For instance, the fallout could be used as a plot device to create new heroes or awaken dormant abilities in people that were normal before (erin*carly alluded to this in the comments of my previous post). Also, having a post-apocalyptic world seems fitting for the show.
I also think Peter will explode by his own choosing. Whether he does it to stop Sylar, because of thoughts someone (the Invisible Man?) plants into his mind, or his powers drive him to the brink of insanity, I think Peter will do it willfully. He could be stopped by Hiro. Future Hiro mentioned Peter’s scar in the episode where they met. Perhaps that scar is a result of Hiro stopping Peter, or it could be a scar that he gets from the explosion. Either is possible.
I also believe a confrontation between Sylar and Peter is looming. My thinking is that Sylar and Peter are opposites. Peter absorbs powers from people and keeps them while they are alive, because a connection is created between the person and Peter. Peter alluded to this connection in a previous episode when talking to his brother. I believe we’ll even find out the connection allows him to do more than use their ability. Sylar absorbs abilities by killing people (and eating their brain or something). This would explain why Peter would be unable to absorb the powers that Sylar has gained: the people are dead. It makes Peter more powerful than Sylar, but also more vulnerable. If they’re opposites, a confrontation between the two is inevitable. It could be that absorbing Sylar’s power and then killing Sylar could cause Peter to go off the deep end.
I believe there is a good possibility that Sylar will be dead before the season is over. With that in mind, and with everything I have said above, I think there is a good chance the final scene of the season will introduce a new villain. A similar scene to the one I described could occur even if the explosion is stopped. Regardless, I suspect Linderman will emerge as a major villain at some point. I also suspect we’re going to find out that one of the characters we have been introduced too is working for Linderman.
So, those are my theories and thoughts. Hope you will share your own.

Yeah, I've been posting about Heroes the last couple of days. If you don't watch the show, you'll be lost (or scared). Actually, I was sort of thinking that I'm going to end up with an FBI file if I keep writing posts about why bombs should go off in New York. Yikes.
You’ve probably got too much going on to watch TV right now. You know, with learning French and Japanese and all.
I agree on the Peter-Sylar comparison and ultimate confrontation. I also agree that Sylar's not going to outlast the season. He's the Darth Maul of this whole set-up.
I'm beginning to think that Linderman stays in the shadows until S2 -- with perhaps only the smallest of revelations in the very last episode of S1.
Was Hiro in Peter's dream when he explodes?? I'm beginning to think that Peter does in fact explode in NY, but that Hiro is not there for it (though didn't he see himself at Isaac's studio??). Ahh that's right -- so my guess is that Hiro figures out how to stop it -- so the sequence goes, Peter destroys NY, Hiro stops and subsequently goes back in time, Hiro saves Peter and everyone. NY is saved. End Season-1 with Linderman-y epilogue.
i DEFINITELY want to see a showdown between sylar and peter. but i have to wonder how sylar's character will change if he does turn out to be a petrelli.
steve, hiro (and ando) did show up in peter's dream. the thing that gets me is everyone's reaction, especially claire. she said, "i'm sorry" to peter before she ran away. something tells me we should watch the scene again...
there's so many theories floating around, and so many of us are writing about them . . . it's hard to conceive that the writers *aren't* trolling around trying to see if they are covering their tracks on cliffahngers and spoilers.
one thing that's really great about everyone theorizing so much . . . it's getting us to think outside the box [yes, i hate that phrase but it fits] and get creative! so if nothing else, we're using parts of our brains that we may not use all the time. so thanks, writers-of-Heroes, for getting us to tune in and start thinking. :)
even if it gets us all FBI files.
